European Council

Strengthening European defence and innovation in an increasingly dangerous world

As transatlatic relations worsen, the Russian threat looms in the east and China continues its meteoric rise in economic power, Europe risks standing alone and falling behind in an increasingly dangerous world. With this troubling backdrop the European Council will convene to discuss how European defence and innovation can be strengthened for the EU to stay relevant and strong in these challenging times. All while still keeping its commitment to fighting the often forgotten threat of climate change.

The European Council is one of the principal institutions of the EU. Here, Heads of State and Government from all EU countries meet and decide on both the long-term strategy of the EU and solve crises that face the Union. The EC requires delegates to represent a national leader on a more precise issue and is therefore suited to intermediate delegates.

Ilan Einstoss Pato

Hey everyone! Im Ilan, I'm half Portuguese/Brazilian and I'm gonna be chairing the EC. I'm 21 (soon 22) and I'm doing a masters in Strategy here in Lisbon. If I had to pick a favourite movie I'd say Shawshank redemption but it's a tough choice.

Can't wait to meet you all in December

Jacopo Mattiello

Heyy everyone, my name is Jacopo, I'm 20 and Italian. I'm about to start my third year in Political Science at Leiden University but live in The Hague and am honoured to co-chair the European Council alongside Ilan! I'd say my favourite movie(s) are the Hunger Games even though I'm way more of a series person.

Looking forward to meeting you all in December and to a great conference!

About AmsterMUN

Founded in 2025, AmsterMUN was created to fill a surprising gap: despite being a global city with major universities, Amsterdam lacked a flagship international MUN conference. From December 5–7, 2025, we’ll bring together 200 students from around the world to debate pressing global issues across seven committees, including the UNGA, UNSC, European Council, and ICJ.

The conference is organised by the AmsterMUN Secretariat, part of SIB-Amsterdam | DUNSA, the Student Association for International Relations, founded in 1947 and home to over 300 active members passionate about diplomacy, politics, and international affairs.
