Accountability and Limits in Border Militarisation
As states increasingly turn to walls, drones, and armed patrols to control migration, the line between border security and human rights abuse grows thinner. Delegates will debate how far militarisation can go before it violates international protection obligations, and who should be held accountable when it does.
UNHCR is the UN agency mandated to protect refugees, forcibly displaced people, and stateless persons worldwide, coordinating humanitarian responses and advocating for international protection standards. Its accessible, human-rights-centered mandate makes it a great starting point for first-time delegates.

Hi! My name is Narmin and I come from Azerbaijan. I am a masters student studying Public International Law at UvA. I started doing MUNs back in high school, but became really involved in the second year of my bachelor’s. I love MUNs as you get to both learn and meet so many cool people. Very excited to meet you all at the conference!
Lena Hadzic
Hi everyone! My name is Lena, and I will be one of the chairs for the UNHRC at AmsterMUN 2026! Originally from Croatia, I'm currently living in the Netherlands and pursuing a Master's degree in International and European Law, specializing in Competition Law, at the University of Amsterdam. I was introduced to the MUN world three years ago, and it was love at first speech. A fun fact about me is that I have been to over 30 concerts all over Europe! I am excited to see what AmsterMUN 2026 will be, and I look forward to meeting all of you in November!
