The Manchurian Crisis (1931–1933)
In 1931, Japanese forces stage the Mukden Incident and swiftly occupy Manchuria, installing the puppet state of Manchukuo in defiance of Chinese sovereignty. As reports of the invasion reach Geneva, the League faces its first true test: can collective security hold when a major power simply ignores it? Delegates must navigate sanctions, condemnation, and the very real risk that inaction now sets a precedent for the decade to come.
The League of Nations was the world's first attempt at a permanent international body for collective security and diplomacy. With limited enforcement power and reliant on unanimous consensus, it's a committee where clever diplomacy matters as much as raw power, ideal for delegates who enjoy historical crisis dynamics with real stakes.
Meet your chairs
Camila Camões
Hello everyone! My name is Camila, and I am one of your chairs for the League of Nations at AmsterMUN 2026. I study Political Communication at UvA, and I come from Faro in southern Portugal.
As one of the co-founders of this conference, and last year's DSG and Chief of Staff, I am beyond excited to be back this year, this time from the chairing side! I have been part of the MUN world since I was 14 and could not be happier to end this journey by chairing this committee. I am really looking forward to meeting all of you here in Amsterdam, and I hope you all have a fruitful conference!
Tom Scheer
Hello everyone! My name is Tom Scheer and I am one of your chairs for the League of Nations at AmsterMUN 2026 and I come from Luxembourg! I have been involved in MUN since I have been 17, and refound my love for it in my first year at Uni!
As AmsterMUN's first-ever Secretary-General last year, I'm thrilled to be back this time on the chairing side, and excited to bring you a committee of excellence, professionalism, and most importantly: fun!
